Nissan GT-R - Sticker

The Nissan GT-R (most commonly the R35, launched in 2007) is Nissan’s flagship performance coupe—famous for delivering supercar-baiting acceleration and grip with a relatively usable, tech-heavy package. It’s nicknamed “Godzilla” for a reason.

What makes a GT-R a GT-R

• Powertrain: a 3.8L twin-turbo V6 (VR38DETT), paired with a 6-speed dual-clutch and a sophisticated AWD system.

• Hand-built heart: the VR38 is famously assembled by a small group of master engine builders (“Takumi”), and Nissan even highlights the hand-assembly/plate tradition in its GT-R materials.

• Real-world speed: in later years it’s commonly quoted around 570 PS (market-dependent) with big torque, and higher-output variants like NISMO were rated higher.

Why it became a legend

• Ridiculous traction and repeatability: the GT-R’s AWD + electronics let normal humans put serious power down consistently.

• Tuner and track culture magnet: huge aftermarket, lots of proven upgrade paths, and a reputation for taking abuse.

• A distinct identity from the Skyline era: earlier “Skyline GT-R” generations (R32/R33/R34) built the myth; the R35 became its own standalone model line.

Production status (important update)

Nissan has announced the end of R35 GT-R production, with the final car rolling off the line in August 2025, closing an ~18-year run (around 48,000 built per Nissan’s statement).

What’s next

Nissan has signaled the GT-R name isn’t necessarily gone forever, and reporting suggests Nissan has been considering what an “R36” could be (some talk has leaned hybrid rather than fully electric, but nothing is final until Nissan formally specs it)
