Honda NSX-R

The Honda NSX-R (often written NSX Type R) is the track-focused,
lightweight “Type R” version of the first-gen NSX—built only for Japan
and made in tiny numbers.

The two main NSX-R versions

1) NSX-R (NA1, 1992–1995)

• The original lightweight NSX-R: Honda stripped a lot of
  comfort gear and cut about 120 kg, landing around 1230 kg.
  

• Very limited run: about 483 were produced (JDM only).

2) NSX-R (NA2 “facelift”, 2002–2005)

• The famous later car with the aggressive aero: extensive carbon fibre (hood/bonnet, spoiler, etc.), more weight stripping, and a curb weight
  around 1270 kg.

• The 3.2L V6 is officially rated the same as a normal 3.2 NSX, but
  Honda gave it “race-style” blueprinting/balancing work for
  sharper response.

• Ultra rare: commonly cited at about 140 cars total.
  
  

What makes an NSX-R feel different

• Weight loss over power gains: less sound deadening, fewer amenities, lighter parts—so it feels more immediate and alive.

• Driver-focused cabin: Recaro buckets (often red), simpler trim, and a more “purposeful” vibe.

• Chassis/suspension tuning for the limit: stiffer setup and more track intent than a standard NSX.

A widely cited benchmark is a 7:56.7 lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife (from Best Motoring coverage).
